Well I didn't get to my dyeing today. I had no citric acid. Had to go to the pharmacy and order some. I pick it up tomorrow afternoon. So now I'm just soaking my last yard of 100% wool.
Hubby and I made some big decisions today. I really want to go see the girls this Christmas. They live the other end of the country and the total cost for the trip would be about $4500CAD. We can't stay with the girls because they have cats and we're allergic. So we have to stay in a hotel. Hubby wants to save money to go to Denmark in two years time. He thinks we'll need more than we can save.
So we talked about moving. The house is too big and too far from the girls. We decided a timeline for moving and what we want to move into - a 3 bedroom apartment condo. We're planning to do it after going to Denmark, so we have funds from the house to help finance the trip. Won't be much, but it will be some.
I told him we need to nail down how long he wants to stay in Europe, because it ain't cheap! I figure 3 weeks will be $15,000 for the two of us. He thinks that's high. I hope he's right, but then he's the guy who thought we could do South Korea on $3000CAD. It cost twice that for 10 days.
In the long run, I must admit travel is an expensive want, not a need. But DH views it as a need (he wants it for family history purposes). Whether moving to a condo will free up enough cash is another issue. I'm not sure what our house is worth. There's nothing like it on the local market, which makes me nervous. It's a bigger home for our area of town, which is a desirable location. Still, condos in Canada are quite expensive. I thought about going into a smaller 2 BR condo, but we simply have too many space consuming hobbies.
Does anyone have any experience with moving from a house to a condo? I'm not sure how I'd run my business. I may have to close it. So frustrated with that idea. I hope not.
I checked online and got quotes from 6 moving companies for a move if we packed everything ourselves. It's about $5000 to where we're going, plus one month free storage once we get there. We'll need more because we the plan is to not buy a place till after we get back from Denmark. Hubby wants to sell all our furniture and start new from scratch after we move. There will be an IKEA nearby, so that's doable. But I won't buy their beds/sofas/chairs...too uncomfortable and not well made. However the bookcases and storage cabinets are a different matter. Still I'm anticipating spending $15,000 on new furniture once we move, because DH wants everything to "match" in the condo!
Are we nuts? This will be our last move until we go into the old folks home. So we'll be in the condo hopefully for around 20 years.
