I'm not sure where to put this post. Sara, if you can find a more appropriate spot, please move it.
DH and I are considering downsizing in a few years time. However I may need a new laptop/computing device. My current MacBook Pro is 7 years old, dented, and slow. Primarily because I've used up over 475 GB of storage on a 518 GB drive. Most of it is photos, videos, and audio. I take a lot of photographs for my business and hobbies. Up until now they haven't been fully backed up. But today I bought a 4 TB external hard drive to do just that.
I also have a Canon T3 Rebel DSLR camera that is 7 years old that takes an SD card. I use this for any good quality photos I want to take.
Plus I have an iPhone and iPad. I use the iPhone 5S for photos and sharing. And the iPad mostly for sharing photos. The photo quality is dreadful on my iPad Mini (yes, the original).
I am thinking I may need to upgrade the laptop with either an iMac (big space hog) in order to get an SD card reader, or a smaller MacBook Pro with an adapter to read the SD card. However, when we went shopping yesterday at the Apple Store in town the iMac was cheaper than the MacBook Pro laptops!
So...do I go cheap and buy the space hog with all the features I want (including the ability to add more RAM)? Or do I pay extra for the smaller device and an adapter?
Or are there other options I haven't thought about?
