Today I'm grateful for our local library. It's within easy walking distance and we can access a lot of material and different media there, as well as programming. That all may go by the wayside though, as the government has decided to cut the provincial libraries by over $600,000.
The result is there will be no more shipping of books between cities (Inter-library Loans). Everyone here is in an uproar over it. It was actually cheaper to do that than to have extensive collections in each location.
But the minister in charge of libraries wants some libraries to close. Everyone uses the Internet instead, according to him. Ah, not for some things! The poor people sure use the library a lot. And some of us who still like to read books use it!
Needless to say DH, a retired librarian, and I are in this fight...
