So a few weeks ago I was thrifting. I always look at the stemware b/c I sort of have an addiction to stemware. I have always said ‘cheap wine tastes expensive in a nice glass’ and I actually believe it. So while thrifting on this particular day I found 5, really nice green stemmed wine glasses with clear tops. There were also some green tops and clear stems but I only got the green stem ones. They were about $2 each. I really love buying stem ware at thrift stores b/c when I break one, I don’t cry over a $15 broken glass. So. I got home and got to thinking about the green glass with clear stems…both will go nicely with my dishes so the next time I’m out I go pick up those as well…5 X $2. I’m sooooo proud of em. They feel so nice your hand, nicely weighted, feel very expensive and yes, my cheap wine tastes awesome out of em. Also I have a nice set of 10. Fast forward to about a month later. I have to stop in at Dollar Tree. I’m gathering up some plastic bins to organize some bathroom cabinets and as I’m browsing on my way out, guess what I spy with my little eye? A whole shelf full of green glass/clear stems & clear glass/green stems wine glasses! They are ONE dollar each. I have such mixed emotions I can’t express it. But, I come home and the next time I have a glass of wine in my ‘lovely’ green/clear glass I giggle b/c I’m a little shocked that I was disappointed to see them in Dollar Tree…not just b/c I over paid for them. If that’s not the epitome of false pride, I don’t know what is LOL!
So, have you ever been let down with a heckuva find that turned out not to be quite what you thought it was?
